Procurement Manager

Primary Objectives:

Our Contract pharmaceutical packing company needs an experienced, innovative Procurement Manager to centralise and govern our purchasing operations for goods and services, across the business. We’re looking for a cost and quality-driven professional who has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical manufacturing/packing industry and who can implement innovative policies to save the company money while improving our product quality. Specifically, we’re looking for someone who can focus on our spending and strive to improve our relations with existing suppliers while finding new suppliers who can meet our needs more efficiently.

We’re looking for someone with a solid understanding of the Pharmaceutical supply chain who will specialize in implementing cost-effective purchases of all goods and services while spearheading the purchasing process from selecting suppliers to ensuring stock optimization.

Reporting to:  Head of Supply Chain

Role Responsibilities:

  • Build strong internal relationships in order to centralise and govern the procurement process across the Central Pharma business
  • Control the procurement budget and promote a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs.
  • Approve the ordering of necessary goods and services
  • Source and engage reliable suppliers and vendors whilst maintaining/improving quality
  • Monitor business trends and product availability to pay the best price for company goods and services without sacrificing quality or delivery times
  • Develops and implements strategies for procuring, storing, and distributing goods or services and maintaining stock levels
  • Research profitable suppliers and initiate business and organization partnerships, targeting advantageous terms
  • Complete purchase order approvals
  • Review existing contracts with suppliers and vendors to ensure on-going feasibility
  • Liaises with key company employees to determine their product and service needs
  • Process main PVDC order replacements as and when requested by the business
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Assess total costs of company purchases
  • Develop procurement strategies that are inventive and cost-effective
  • Perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • Preparing procurement reports and KPI metrics

The above list of duties is not exhaustive and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven working experience as a Procurement Manager in Pharma manufacturing/packing
  • Solid understanding of Pharma Supply Chain Management processes
  • Knowledge of current sourcing and procurement techniques
  • Manage internal and external communications regarding changes to procurement policies and procedures.
  • Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills
  • Talent in negotiations and networking
  • Aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers
  • Relevant qualification in supply chain management/procurement (CIPS), preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of preparing and reviewing contracts and negotiating terms
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access)
  • Management and leadership skills
  • Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills


The position reports directly into the Head of Supply Chain. The role requires strong working relationships to be built with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

Success Criteria:

The Procurement Manager will be measured on the following areas:

  • Reduction in contract spend
  • Reduction in key component (PVC / Foil) spend
  • Manages and reports on KPIs supporting both purchasing and accounts payables processes end-to-end
  • Implementing the centralisation and governance of the CP procurement process
