We are delighted to announce that Dr Rupert Smit will be joining the Central Pharma team. Smit’s experience is the perfect fit to enhance our capability across the Cell and Gene Therapy space.

Graduating from Boston University in Psychology, it was Smit’s Masters in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience that really paved the way for his future in medicine. Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery across the Universities of St George’s, London and Thomas Jefferson, United States, only cemented Smit’s desire to pursue a career in medicine and validated his interest in neurological disorders.

As a clinical neuroscientist, Mr. Smit will be invaluable as we enhance our Cell and Gene Therapy capabilities.

“I am very excited to join Central Pharma in a formal capacity. I am concluding my research at Temple University, where we use viral vectors to treat spinal cord injury in rats and am applying for post-graduate training in neurosurgery. At the same time, I have been committed to neurosurgical projects at Thomas Jefferson University. This includes investigating the viability of augmented reality in cranial surgery, machine-based learning imaging studies and refining operative workflow. The prospect of getting involved in cell and gene therapies couldn’t come at a more exciting time in the industry. I am hoping to turn my attention to entrepreneurship and promoting business engagement growth within the U.S.”
