International Women in Engineering Day was celebrated around the globe earlier this week. We are delighted to share a short interview with a member of our expert team, Kinga Grudziak.

Kinga, what inspired you to pursue a career in engineering, and what advice would you give to women who are considering entering this field?

“I was inspired to pursue a career in engineering, due to a combination of my innate curiosity about how things work and a strong desire to solve complex problems. From a young age, I was fascinated by the mechanisms behind everyday objects and systems. Recognising this potential, my company supported and encouraged me, ultimately enabling me to complete my college education in engineering.

To women considering a career in engineering, my advice is to stay curious and persistent. The path can be challenging, but your unique perspectives and contributions are invaluable. Seek out mentors and build a support network of like-minded individuals. Embrace lifelong learning and don’t be afraid to take risks or make mistakes; these are integral parts of growth and innovation. Lastly, believe in your abilities and the positive impact you can make in the world through engineering. Your presence in this field is not only important but necessary for driving diversity and progress”.

Can you share a significant challenge you have faced in your engineering career and how you overcame it? How did this experience shape your approach to your work?

“Due to the underrepresentation of women in the engineering field, I face challenges on a daily basis. However, I am committed to overcoming these obstacles with professionalism and dedication. Challenges significantly shape my approach to work by fostering resilience, adaptability, and continuous improvement. They compel me to develop, enhance my problem-solving skills, and maintain a proactive attitude. These experiences also strengthen my commitment to professionalism, ensuring that I handle difficulties with grace and determination. As a result, I am better equipped to navigate complex situations and contribute effectively to my team and organisation”.

Women like Kinga are vital to the engineering sector, bringing diverse perspectives and creative solutions to technical problems. Celebrating their contributions helps to inspire the next generation of women engineers and encourages a more balanced and diverse workforce.

“To women considering a career in engineering, my advice is to stay curious and persistent”.
